Historic
University Theater
The Historic University Theater was a thriving movie theater for many years.
It was the oldest still operating movie theater north of the ship canal up
till the 1980's. In the late eighties, it was closed, and remained closed
for ten years. In 1998, the building was purchased and renovated to include
ADA accessible bathrooms and a new roof. In 2000, it was an all ages music
venue called THE PARADOX. When the Paradox owners shut down in February of
2003, Wing-It Productions took over the lease and began re-creating the once
majestic theater into the performance space it is today.
Wing-It
renovations have included:
Upstairs office space
Stage extension
Concession stand
New ticket booth
New movie Screen
New
curtains and pully
Lobby and bathroom painting.
New fire exit doors.
Sound and Lighting system installation.
Wing-It Productions
Wing-It Productions was created in 1996 by Andrew McMasters and Mike Christensen
to produce Jet City Improv and other improvisational works. Wing-It
has created hundreds of original performances, such as Twisted Flicks, a Seattle institution now in it's 10th year.. In 1999, Wing-It took over producing
the Fremont Outdoor Movies to preserve a fun community event and allow for
more education of improv to a diverse community.
Since its inception, Wing-It has operated primarily on performance fees and ticket
revenue. The company's goal is to create a self-sufficient theatrical
company that creates multiple diversified productions.
Wing-It is governed by a nine-member volunteer board of directors.
Jet City Improv - A Higher Plane of Comedy
Mike Christensen and Andrew McMasters founded Jet City Improv in 1992.
Together they formed a company with the purpose of creating a slicker, more
polished improv show than had ever been seen before. They dedicated
themselves to creating a clean show, one devoid of lowbrow humor -- the common
fodder of most improv and stand-up comedy shows. They also pioneered
ways to make a show flow from one routine to another by incorporating music
into their performances.
Jet City Improv is one of the the top improvisational theater companies in the
country. Their home in Seattle is a performance space dedicated to improv and theater, and the
creation of new works.
